Undergraduate Researchers

Undergraduate researchers in the Langkilde Lab assist on graduate student and postdoc projects, and conduct independent research. Students receive course credit for participating in research during semester, and there are opportunities to apply for funding to conduct research over the summer.

We will be recruiting undergraduate researchers for Spring 2019 towards the end of the year. To be considered, please send Dr. Tracy Langkilde an email with a brief description of why you are interested in joining the lab.

Graduate students

The lab is currently full, and it is unlikely that we will be recruiting new students, but I am always happy to hear from exceptional prospective student applicants.

I have graduated 6 PhD and 1 MSc students, and currently have 4 PhD and 1 MSc student in the lab (see People).
Here are some numbers for the graduated PhD students that reflect their achievements (and indicate what you should expect to achieve) during their degrees in my lab (average, range).

    Years to graduate: 4.3 (4 - 5.5)
   Funding awarded: research funds $10,750 ($500 - $25,000), stipend funds $123,833 ($8,000 - $170,000)
Publications resulting from PhD research (to date): 5.3 (3 - 8)
Awards: NSF GRFP & DDIG, professional society for best posters & talks, university-level for best thesis, mentoring & outreach
Current positions include postdoctoral fellows and tenure-track faculty

Postdoctoral Fellows

I am happy to work with prospective postdocs to apply for funding. There are several programs that provide these opportunities, but many of them take some time to come through, so plan ahead.

For example, the National Science Foundation has postdoctoral research fellowships to broaden participation of under-represented groups (e.g., by developing research training and outreach programs), and for research using biological collections (which can be an excellent tool for examining changes in traits over evolutionary time).

Please contact me if you are interested in working on a proposal for funding.
